How to flavor waffle dough? 1

To celebrate the end of winter on Mardi Gras, the waffle is king. It’s time to pull out the forgotten condiments out of the closet. Here are some ideas to perfume and sublimate your dough. In the kitchen!

Mardi Gras is a day when you indulge yourself with rich and sweet preparations such as pancakes, donuts, and of course, waffles! But do you know the origin of this tradition? In the Catholic religion, the faithful made sure to have consumed all the reserves of eggs and fatty products before the beginning of the Lenten fast to avoid spoiling them. The children took advantage of this moment to dress up and collect the ingredients from their neighbors. Today, Mardi Gras is celebrated, as the Romans did on the occasion of the calends of March, to welcome spring.

To brighten up your plates this year and celebrate the end of winter, here is a list of aromas to incorporate into your waffle dough to give it character. And to get started, discover our traditional waffle dough recipe. In the kitchen!

Rum, brandy, Grand Marnier…

Classic but no less surprising on the palate, rum is one of the essential ingredients of a tasty waffle. You can of course replace it with brandy, which will bring a fruity taste to the device, or a Grand Marnier with cherry, almond, or orange liqueur. Add a cap of one of these alcohols and voila! With such flavors, your waffle is not likely to be bland.

Beer

Beer waffles are a Belgian institution! This famous drink achieves a crispier and lighter result and helps reduce the rest time of the dough. Do not hesitate to replace some of the milk with beer or discover our special recipe! The ideal is to choose a light white or blonde beer that will not invade the taste of waffles.

Vanilla or cinnamon

Vanilla has the gift of giving desserts a natural touch of sugar and sweetness. To incorporate it, simply add to the dough the seeds of a crushed vanilla pod or a few drops of liquid vanilla extract. You can also replace some of the sugar with vanilla sugar.

The tonka bean

The tonka bean is one of the substitutes for vanilla because it brings a warm and sweet flavor that comes close to it. Tonka beans are sold in seeds and can be grated or ground! Be careful, however, not to abuse them because their taste is very pronounced.

Orange blossom

This is the solution if you want to bring to your dessert a fruity and oriental flavor. Simply add a tablespoon of orange blossom water to your preparation to feel the difference!

Orange juice

Orange waffles are irresistible, even more so when served with a delicious whipped cream topped with orange zest! To impress your guests, do not hesitate to incorporate orange juice into your waffle pasta by replacing some of the milk. And if this solution is still too classic for you, try apple, lemon, pear, or cider juice… As always, your imagination is the only limit.

Banana

Banana is perfect for giving consistency and fluffiness to your waffle while replacing some of the butter. Little risk of going hungry with a snack like that! Just crush three ripe bananas and mix them with two eggs and 50 cl of milk. Add 250 g of flour, half a sachet of yeast, 50 g of sugar, 50 g of melted butter, and voila!

Chocolate (or coffee)

How not forget chocolate? The favorite food of young and old, it will be ideal to perfume your waffle and give it a beautiful chocolate color. You can simply add a tablespoon of cocoa powder, coffee, or chicory or test our heart waffle all choco. Yum!
