Adolfo Rodriguez Saa is an Argentine politician, who is currently a member of the Argentine senate and also served as the interim President of Argentina for a week in 2001. He was born in an influential family in the city of San Luis in Argentina and his father was the police chief of the city. He studied law at the University of Buenos Aires and after his graduation, he worked as a teacher in his former school in San Luis. Before long he joined the youth wing of the Peronist Party in San Luis and became the local representative. When the Peronist Party came to power, the party appointed him as a provincial legislator. Although he had to quit politics due to the coup of 1976, he came back to politics as soon as the dictatorship was ended in 1983 and was elected as the governor of San Luis. His 18 year tenure as the governor of San Luis proved to be extremely beneficial for the city as far as economic development was concerned. In the meantime, he continued to unsuccessfully run for the presidency plenty of times. However, in 2001, following the resignation of the president Fernando de la Rua, Saa was installed as the interim President. His tenure lasted for only a week.

Childhood & Early Life
Adolfo Rodriguez Saa was born on 25 July 1947, in San Luis, Argentina, to Carlos Juan Rodriguez Saa and his wife Lilia Esther Paez Montero. His family has a long history of political influence in the region and his father was the police chief of the city.
Adolfo received his early education at Juan Pascal Pringles School, which was associated with the University of Cuyo. After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Buenos Aires, graduating in 1971.
After completing his education, he worked in the capacity of a teacher at his alma mater Juan Pascal Pringles School and continued in the job for the next two years. He had joined the Peronist Youth during his graduation and worked as their representative in San Luis.
Career
The Peronist Party emerged as the winner of the 1973 elections and Adolfo Rodriguez Saa became a provincial legislator. He was also involved with the unions of the party. However, in 1976, following a coup he had to quit politics.
After quitting politics, he joined a law firm and worked there with his brother. However, once the dictatorship was ended in 1983, elections were held and Saa was elected as the governor of San Luis in a tightly fought election. His stint as the governor saw big investments in San Luis and employment, social services, industries, and tourism all witnessed a huge growth. San Luis became prosperous under his governorship.
He contested the primary elections of the Justicialist Party for the 1989 presidential elections but wasn’t successful. Eventually Carlos Menem became the president of the country.
Adolfo Rodríguez Saá was elected to the Constituent Assembly that drafted the 1994 amendment of the Argentine Constitution..
He wanted to run for the primaries for the 1995 presidential elections but gave up and abandoned the campaign when he realised that he did not have any chance of winning against Carlos Menem. In 1999, he pulled out of the primaries of the presidential elections yet again but the same year he was re-elected as the governor of San Luis.
In 2001, the then President, Fernando de la Rua, resigned from his post following the riots that took place across Argentina and in a special assembly called by the Congress, Saa emerged as the winner with a total of 169 votes. He was installed as the interim President of Argentina on 23 December 2001.
During his short stint as the president he proposed a new currency called ‘argentino’ in order to arrest inflation and also declared a sovereign default. He had also prepared a budget for the following year in line with the International Monetary Fund recommendations but it did not get any support. He resigned on December 30 2001. His presidency lasted a week.
In the 2003 Presidential elections, he ran for office yet again but came fourth. In 2005, he was elected senator for San Luis and has been a senator since then..
