NTT Communications’ Open Hub Project aims to bridge people using digital human technology

NTT Communications, a Japanese AI tech company, recently announced its latest cooperative project called “Open Hub,” which aims to solve the problem of decreasing labor power, diversity of work styles, and the succession of skill. The firm aims to accelerate cooperation beyond borders to contribute to building a better society. ANI reported that the company hoped the project would connect people with the help of digital human technology.

Open Hub’s establishment began in October 2021 and has now grown to a group of 1300 companies, 3000 researchers, and 400 NTT staff. This group of individuals is referred to as “catalysts,” which means they connect people with the help of digital human technology. Catalysts are named “CONN,” which is short for “connect,” a bridge between various people. She would be the 401st catalyst.

CONN is an AI avatar created by NTT Communications, which has a human-like face and talking capabilities. The company insists on the avatar’s human-like looks and motion, with a voice produced by AI technology. According to Seigo Tomatsu of NTT Com Open Hub, CONN’s name stands for “Mobile Space Statistics.” The avatar will attend events, shows, company receptions, and clothing stores soon.

With the help of CONN, there will be a progression of the fusion of virtual space and real space. People can use virtual glass to get virtual space information with a real image of their avatar, according to media reports. Users can navigate the destination in the real world, and they will have access to statistics related to each day’s population, gender, age, and where they came from.

Seigo Tomatsu stated that Japan and aging Asian countries share the same problem regarding the decreasing labor force population. Stopping the development of society is not the right way forward. Referring to the decreasing labor force, we should try to find a solution to increase productivity. Digital technology can help, but human beings can solve more complicated and creative problems. Sharing roles between humans and digital technology can help tackle various issues.
