Air Liquide's Ammonia Cracking: Revolutionizing Hydrogen Production

Air Liquide is building an industrial scale ammonia cracking pilot plant in Antwerp, Belgium, that will utilize innovative technology to convert ammonia into hydrogen with an optimized carbon footprint. The cracking technology will assist Air Liquide in its contribution to hydrogen development for the energy transition. The global supply chain infrastructure for ammonia production, transportation, and utilization at large scale for various industries is already in place. The cracking plant is expected to commence operations in 2024, utilizing a novel efficient process with Air Liquide’s proprietary technologies. The Flemish Government has also confirmed its financial support for the project. The Flemish Government has also confirmed its financial support for the project. Air Liquide has been a master of hydrogen for more than 60 years, and under its ADVANCE strategic plan, the company is committing to investing about €8bn globally in the low-carbon hydrogen value chain by 2035. The company has affirmed its commitment to making hydrogen a vital part of the fight against climate change, especially for the decarbonisation of heavy industry and mobility.
