Wilco Froneman began his career in Johannesburg in February 2009 as a tax risk auditor at Nedbank. He worked there for one year and ten months before moving to Cape Town and joining Ernest & Young in November 2010 as a transfer pricing assistant manager. Froneman held this job for the following three years. In March 2014, he was hired by BDO South Africa as the transfer pricing manager. He would be with this company for about one and a half year.

In late 2015, Froneman relocated to Dublin, Ireland, to work for Deloitte Ireland as their transfer pricing manager. He held the job for almost two years. In July 2017, he was transferred to Deloitte’s New York branch, where he currently works.

While he was in Dublin, he used to play for the Emerald Warriors, which is a Leinster Metro League Division 10 team. They are also part of the International Gay Rugby Association and Board. The club was founded in 2003 and their colours are green, white, and blue. Their crest depicts a traditional Celtic shield with multiple rugby balls making up a floral pattern at the centre. Froneman was with the Warriors for two years and was a member of their bronze final championship-winning team at the Union Cup Madrid 2017. Froneman was one of the two players who received the Emerald Warriors’ Player of the Season accolade that year.

In 2017, after moving to New York City, he joined Gotham Knights Rugby Football Club, which is a Division III men's club in the Metropolitan New York Rugby Union. Their home ground is located in Randalls Island in Manhattan.
