Sophie Marceau

Sophie Marceau was born as Sophie Danièle Sylvie Maupu on 17 November 1966 in Paris, France. Her father Benoît Maupu was a truck driver while her mother Simone served as a shop assistant. Marceau grew up with her brother Sylvain, who is also an actor. She studied acting at the Ecole Florent in Paris.

Talking about her love life, the French beauty dated director Andrzej Żuławski from 1985 to 2001. Their son Vincent was born in 1995. After separating from Żuławski in 2001, Marceau got romantically involved with producer Jim Lemley. The couple had a daughter, Juliette, before separating in 2007. Soon after this, the actress began dating actor Christopher Lambert. The couple announced their separation in July 2014.

Marceau had a relationship with French chef Cyril Lignac from 2016-17. He owns two bistros, a restaurant, two chocolate shops, and a sushi bar. Currently, she is supposedly single.

Sophie Marceau made her acting debut in 1980 with the French comedy flick ‘La Boum’. The following year, she recorded a song "Dream in Blue" with François Valéry. She next starred in the sequel of La Boum titled ‘La Boum 2’. Her performance in this film earned her the 1983 César Award for the Most Promising Actress.

In 1984, she appeared in the historical drama ‘Fort Saganne’ alongside Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu. That year, the actress also acted in the film ‘Joyeuses Pâques’ (Happy Easter). Soon after this, she did the movies ‘L'amour braque’ and ‘Police’. Then in 1986, Marceau was cast in the flick ‘Descente aux enfers’ (in English - Descent Into Hell). Two years later, she got featured in the historical adventure movie ‘Chouans’ as well as in the comedy film ‘L'Étudiante’ (The Student). She went on to play a role in her then-boyfriend Andrzej Zulawski’s film ‘My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days’

In the year 1990, the French beauty starred in the French-American comedy ‘Pacific Palisades’ and also in ‘La note bleue.’ A year later, she debuted on stage, appearing in the play ‘Eurydice’. Marceau rose to international fame with her movies ‘Fanfan’ and ‘Revenge of the Musketeers’ that were released in 1993 and 1994 respectively. During that time, she also got featured as Eliza Doolittle in the play ‘Pygmalion’.

Marceau’s international popularity further increased in 1995 when she played Princess Isabelle in the epic war film ‘Braveheart’. The same year, she appeared in the French movie ‘Beyond the Clouds’ and also began writing her semi-autobiographical novel titled ‘Menteuse’ (Telling Lies). The English version of the same was published in 2001. Marceau acted in the movies ‘Firelight’, ‘Marquise’ and ‘Anna Karenina’ in 1997. Two years later, she portrayed the character of Hippolyta in the fantasy flick ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’. The actress also played Elektra King in the British spy film ‘The World Is Not Enough’ in 1999.

In 2000, Marceau once again collaborated with her then-boyfriend Zulawski for the movie ‘Fidelity’ in which she played the role of a photographer. After this, she made her directorial debut with ‘Speak to Me of Love’, a feature film for which she was named the Best Director at the Montreal World Film Festival.
