Its first demos were recorded while they were still in high school. The band was heavily influenced by the 1960s rock bands, the Beatles, the Zombies, and the Beach Boys.

Their debut album ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ was released in September 2005. Along with being the lead guitarist, and backing vocalist, Ross was also the writer of the lyrics. The album deals with several social issues. Though initially it stood at No. 112 on the Billboard 200 album chart, later it rose to No. 13.

The band’s second studio album ‘Pretty. Odd.’ was released in March 2008. It stood at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200. It also performed well commercially, selling 54,000 copies on the first day itself and 139,000 copies, within a week in the US.
