Richmond Lockwood Sexson was born on 29th December 1974 in Portland, Oregon, in the US. He studied at Prairie High School located in Brush Prairie, Washington. He was proficient in sports such as baseball, basketball, and football and was an All-State Performer. He also set the record for the most home runs and RBI in his school.
He is married to Kerry Sexson and they have a son Preston and a daughter Ayla. Since 2014, he has been serving as a baseball coach at Summit High School, in Bend, Oregon.
In 1993, at the age of nineteen, Richie Sexson was drafted during the baseball amateur draft by the Cleveland Indians. He proved to be a very successful player over the next few years. The year 1999 proved to be a breakout year for him, as he scored 31 home runs, with 116 runs batted in a total of 134 games.
In 2000, he was traded off to the Milwaukee Brewers. The following year proved to another amazing one as he scored 45 home runs, tying the record set by Gorman Thomas of the Brewers in 1979. Though he also broke another record with 178 strikeouts, he was surpassed by Jose Hernandez in the following season.
He represented the team in the MLB All-Star Game in 2002. It was held at Milwaukee. The following year, he played in all 162 games of the season and once again scored 45 home runs. His record was broken in 2007 by Prince Fielder after he hit 50 hit home runs.
In December 2003, Sexson was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. This trade turned out to be unfavorable for the team as he missed most of the season due to a reverse subluxation of his left shoulder.
Richie Sexson then signed a four-year contract worth $50 million with the Seattle Mariners, before the 2005 season. His performance during the season was brilliant. He hit 39 home runs as well as 121 RBI. However, his performance dwindled during the 2007 season with only 21 home runs and 63 RBI. He was released by the team in July 2008.
