In July 2007, Remy Ma turned herself in to New York Police Department in a case of a shooting incident in which she was involved. She was identified as the shooter and was sentenced to 8 years to prison, which she underwent for 6 years before getting released in 2014. Remy married her fiancé, Papoose, while serving her time in the jail in May 2008.

Remy Ma was born Reminisce Mackie in Bronx, New York, on 30th May 1981 in an African neighborhood. She had to suffer a lot during her early life due to the problem of drug addiction in her family and was burdened with the responsibility of taking care of her siblings at a very early age. She was a poetry enthusiast and started writing poetry as a teenager to escape from her outside reality and keep her sanity intact amidst a chaotic neighborhood.

Big Pun died soon after, and Fat Joe took the responsibility of shaping Ma up for a career in rapping and as a result, she was signed on by his label SRC along with Universal. One of her early songs ‘Lean Back’ got her a Grammy nomination and a few other songs from her debut album topped several charts. These included ‘Whateva’, ‘Conceited’ and ‘Feels so Good’. In 2006, arrived her very first album ‘There’s Something About Remy: The True Story’.

She was named to be the most popular female rappers in Japan.

Soon after returning back home, she collaborated with DJ Khaled in the latter’s song ‘They Dont Love You No More’ and in 2015, Remy released an LP titled ‘Remy on the Rocks’. In the same year, a collaborative song with Rick Ross and Yo Gotti titled ‘Hands Down’ came and Remy marked her comeback in style. Some further collaboration saw her working alongside Jay-Z, David Guetta, The Game and Snoop Dogg.
