Panio was born on 7th July 1975 and was brought up in Massachusetts. He is of American-Greek descent. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a major in Literature. He holds a management degree from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
Panio married actress and author, Molly Ringwald, in 2007. The couple has three children – Mathilda Ereni, Roman Stylianos and Adele Georgiana. Panio and Molly have been married for a decade now and their relationship is as strong as ever.
Most of the characters of Panio’s novels and stories display extreme traits. They are either volatile or exhibit the traits of that of a sadist. Over the years, he has also sketched characters that look quiet and calm from outside, while undergoing torturous mindset on the inside. During the course of his writing career, Panio has made these kinds of characters his own.
A Familiar Beast: ‘A Familiar Beast’ is the story of a man who is disgraced while struggling to overcome the aftermath of his divorce, as he searches for redemption. Out of desperation and loneliness, he goes on a hunting trip with a friend who he hadn’t seen since high school, and the book follows their strange and comic weekend.
How to Get Into Our House and Where We Keep the Money: This is basically a collection of two stories that revolve around female protagonists. Panio has constructed the female characters in a sensitive manner. While sketching the female characters, Panio’s wife too, had contributed with her valuable inputs.
Luxury: This novel is about four women named Maude, Emma, Kara and Paige who hate each other.
To date,Panio has appeared in two films and in a TV series.Thefilms, ‘Author: The JT LeRoy Story’ released in 2016 and ‘The Cult of JT LeRoy’ released in 2014, had himplaying himself. In the former, Panio was seen reading excerpts and sharing his views on the protagonist, JT LeRoy, a fictional writer created by American author Laura Albert.
