Mirka Federer dated Roger Federer for a whole decade after the two first locked eyes in the 2000 Summer Olympics. Their relationship was a constant talk of the town and they got married eventually in 2009 in the Wenkenhof villa in Reiher in a ceremony attended only by close friends and relatives.

Miroslava Mirka was born on 1st April 1978 in Bojnice, Czechoslovakia to parents who were into Jewellery business. After her birth, her family bid adieu to their home country and moved to Switzerland for a better future. The family had modest earnings and Mirka has said that the very simple upbringing that she had as a child played a huge role in shaping her up as someone who understands the importance of money and fame.

At an early age, she witnessed a tennis match and the sport just clicked to her and as if it was a hint from the universe, she got to meet Martina Navratilova while she was 8. She was smitten by Martina’s personality and decided that she wanted to be like her and devoted her childhood to hone her skills as a tennis player. Martina gifted her a tennis racquet, which she has said was the best gift she ever received, before meeting her husband.

She practiced on the Tennis court for hours as while constantly fuelling her desires to play for her country some day and despite all the hardships, ranging from financial troubles to emotional disturbances, in the late 90’s she got the chance to represent her country in professional tennis arena.

Mirka showed her immense talent in sport when she won the Swiss Junior Title, where she was pitted among the best young and emerging players from Switzerland. She received immense support from professional tennis players and as result of world class training and coaching, she soon started her professional tennis career in her late teens/early twenties.

Although Mirka didn’t actually had a long and very successful career, but that didn’t stop her from having a humongous fan following. She kick started her tennis career in the early to mid nineties while playing in tournaments around the world and ended up winning Tel Aviv tennis championship in 1997 and clear water tennis open and eventually got selected for the national Olympics team in 2000.

At the 2000 Summer Olympics, she met Roger Federer who had just started his career as a professional player. They instantly liked each other and started dating while going on about their careers separately.

By the third quarter of 2001, Mirka was at the ultimate prime of her career as she reached the third round of one of the most respectable worldwide tennis events, the US Open. Her rankings reached in top 100 for the first time ever since she started playing. However, she crashed out of the tournament in the third round, but her way of style clicked with the spectators and she met with cheers and worldwide acclaim.

She teamed up with Roger Federer in the Hopman cup tennis championship when they shared the court in mixed doubles in 2002. It was one of the last matches of her career as she finally opened up to media about her injury which eventually led her to an early retirement from the sport. After marrying Federer, she started managing his finances, endorsements and public relations.

Mirka has been a persistent cheerleader for her hubby Roger and sometimes, the passion get a bit higher. She was accused of heckling her husband’s Swiss opponent Stan Wawrinka in the third set of an ATP tour semi final match. She received a lot of flak for her insensitive behaviour. She allegedly called him a ‘cry baby’. It turned out that Stan had also complained about her to the referees in the first few sets as well. The controversy reached its peak when Roger had to intervene and it allegedly turned into a fully fledged argument between two Swiss tennis masters.
