Lynn Collins grew up in a spiritual and religious family as an ardent Christian. Hence, she developed an inclination toward spirituality. Later in life, she explored various religions and did not limit herself to any particular faith.
She studied astrology but felt it was a challenging art.
Since 2013, Collins was in a relationship with American actor Steven Strait. They got married on December 23, 2007, after a serious relationship of four years.
Lynn Collins was born Viola Lynn Collins, on May 16, 1977, in Houston, Texas. She moved to Singapore with her parents when she was four years old. She spent her summers in Japan, as her parents were getting their karate ranks upgraded there. She, too, is a trained martial artist.
After spending six years in Singapore, she returned to Houston along with her family. While in Texas, she completed her elementary education from ‘Klein High School.’ After moving to Singapore, she joined the ‘Singapore American School.’ In 1999, she graduated with a BFA degree from ‘Juilliard.’
She discovered her passion for acting at an early age. Her desire turned into a dream when she acted at a Christmas pageant. As soon as she completed her graduation, she went to New York and bagged her first acting project.
In 1999, she made her first TV appearance in an episode of the series ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.’ She played ‘Virginia Hayes,’ a single-episode role in the series. Following this acting stint, she also appeared in plays such as ‘Hamlet’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet.’
In 2001, she bagged the role of ‘Catarin’ in the TV film ‘Earth Angels.’ She then appeared in small roles in series such as ‘The Education of Max Bickford’ and ‘Push, Nevada.’ Following this, she bagged the role of ‘Assistant D.A. Jessica Manning’ in the 2002 series ‘Haunted.’ Her role in this series continued for five episodes. It was her longest appearance in a series till 2002.
Finally, in 2002, she made her film debut with ‘Never Get Outta the Boat.’ This was a small role that went unnoticed by audiences. The film failed to earn her the appreciation she deserved.
In 2003, she was cast in the role of ‘Beatnik Girl’ in the film ‘Down with Love.’ She also starred in films such as ‘50 First Dates’ and ‘13 Going on 30,’ but her roles failed to earn recognition.
Finally, in 2004, she bagged a major role that changed her career forever. She got an opportunity to portray the character of ‘Portia’ in the film ‘The Merchant of Venice.’ This role earned her the recognition she deserved. Her performance was appreciated by both critics and audiences. Her performance earned her a nomination for the ‘Golden Satellite Award’ for the ‘Best Supporting Actress- Musical or Comedy’ in 2005.
