She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 in the middle of her worldwide tour, ‘Showgirl’. She had to cancel the tour in order to get into immediate surgery and subsequent chemotherapy. During the time of her hospitalization, the then Prime Minister of Australia John Howard issued a public statement supporting Kylie in her battle with cancer. She got noticed by the aces of the music industry and in 1987 she signed a contract with an Australian recording company called the Mushroom Records. ‘The Loco-Motion’ spent 7 weeks at the top position at the Australian music charts and became the highest selling track in Australia in 1980s.

In 1988, the huge success of ‘The Loco-Motion’ in Australia led the British music producers: Stock, Aitken and Waterman, to sign her with their record labels in order to make her into an international star. This led to the production of her debut album called ‘Kylie’ in the same year and a particular track from the album ‘I should Be So Lucky’ became an international favorite.

In 1989, Kylie recorded another album called ‘Enjoy Yourself’ with her ‘Neighbors’ co-star and boyfriend at that time, Jason Donovan. The duets from this album instantly became chart toppers. Her popularity was spiraling up and in the year 1990, Kylie was cast in the movie ‘The Delinquents’, which effectively transformed her image from an adorable pop star into a sexy movie star.

In order to promote the album more profusely, Kylie set on the ‘Let’s Get to It’ Tour. By this time her contract was done with Stock, Aitken and Watermen and she decided not to renew it as she felt that they creatively stifled her.
