He realized his interest in music early on and learnt to play bass guitar from his sister’s boyfriend. Later on he began to play rhythm guitar.
He attended Westminster School, but dropped out at 17 to start his own band. His band, called ‘Midnight’ was popular at the clubs and produced a couple of singles, but could not attain greater success.
In order to explore bigger opportunities, he moved to Los Angeles in 1991 for 6 months. There he took a number of odd jobs like a house painter and a video art illustrator.
On his return to England, he met guitarist Nigel Pulsford, bassist Dave Parsons, screenwriter Sacha Gervasi and drummer Robin Goodridge with whom he formed a band called ‘Future Primitive’ in 1992.
In 1994, the band changed its name to ‘Bush’ and released their first album ‘Sixteen Stone’. The album was great success and became a best seller.
Their second album ‘Razorblade Suitcase’ was out in 1996. Although this album received mostly negative reviews from critics, it reached the number-one spot on the Billboard 200.
They released a remix album, ‘Deconstructed’ in 1997. The album consisted of complete remixes of the band’s previous songs and did not include any new material.
The debut album of Bush, ‘Sixteen Stone’, released in 1994 was their most popular album. It featured singles like ‘Everything Zen’, ‘Comedown’, and ‘Glycerine’. Many of the singles became big hits and made it to the Top 40 list.
Bush’s second album, ‘Razorblade Suitcase’ which was out in 1996 was one of the last popular albums to bear a grunge sound. The tone of this album was darker than its predecessor and included singles like ‘Swallowed’ and ‘Greedy Fly’ which made it to the Top 20 of the U.K Singles Chart.
