Baseball was his main game in which he was a pitcher and shortstop for his high school team. He was one of the team’s star players and set records in batting average and runs batted in (RBI). He also set a school record with 14 home runs in his senior year. He went on to the catcher’s position as a sophomore and was declared runners up for the ‘Johnny Bench Award’ for catching. He won the award in his final year in college.
