Pasadena Unified School District Science Fest: The Largest STEM Event Ever

Pasadena Unified School District Science Fest is returning this April 22 at John Muir High School, featuring a wide range of interactive exhibits designed to showcase the latest in the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). According to Dr. Warren Skidmore, head of the organizing committee for the event, this is the largest scale “district-wide” science fest so far and is the largest science fest type event ever organized within PUSD.

The event will run from noon until 5 p.m. and is free and open to everyone interested in STEM, including students, parents, and members of the community. All PUSD school sites are participating in the upcoming Science Fest. Students will be able to see how the skills they are learning in class relate to applications in the real world, said Skidmore.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about STEM career pathways and meet a series of international-level speakers giving talks on a range of topics, including science, technology, and more. Environmentalists will also join the Science Fest as the event coincides with Earth Day, an event which celebrates the planet Earth and raises public awareness about environmental issues.

High-profile local politicians are expected to attend the event as well. Several Pasadena-based companies and organizations will be showcasing new innovations and technologies. These include Caltech, JPL, SpaceX, Carnegie Observatories, Foothill Transit with zero carbon buses, and Huntington Medical Research Institute.

All groups participating will have an emphasis on new technologies and development, and they will try to show how new technologies are being employed, including for firefighters, the military, medical groups, and more.
