The University of Mysore (UoM) has been without a permanent vice-chancellor since November 15, 2022. To fill the position, a search committee, headed by Prof. M.S. Shivakumar, former VC of Bengaluru’s CMR University, recommended three individuals for the position. The committee, consisting of four members, held a meeting on March 18, 2023, and recommended UoM’s Head of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. D.S. Guru, Physics faculty of the University of Hyderabad, Dr. Sharath Ananthamurthy, and UoM’s Physics faculty, Dr. N.K. Lokanath. The current acting VC, Prof. Muzaffar H. Assadi’s tenure will end on June 30, 2023, as per the notification issued by the Office of Under Secretary to Governor, signed by Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor of Universities, Thaawarchand Gehlot.
Search Committee Recommends Three Names for University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Position
Since November 15, 2022, the University of Mysore (UoM) has been without a permanent vice-chancellor. To fill this position, the State Government formed a search committee headed by former VC of Bengaluru’s CMR University, Prof. M.S. Shivakumar. This committee, consisting of four members, including Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Punjab, Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Director of CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), and Prof. Prakash Mani Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, recommended three names for the position.
The committee met on March 18, 2023, in the city, and recommended three individuals to the Governor for the vice-chancellor position. These names include UoM’s Head of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. D.S. Guru, Physics faculty of the University of Hyderabad, Dr. Sharath Ananthamurthy, and UoM’s Physics faculty, Dr. N.K. Lokanath.
After the completion of Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar’s four-year tenure as the VC on Nov. 15, 2022, Prof. H. Rajashekhar, the Dean of Faculty of Commerce, Department of Studies in Commerce, was appointed as the In-Charge VC from Nov. 15, 2022, until Feb. 19, 2023. Following his tenure, Prof. Muzaffar H. Assadi, Dean of Faculty of Arts, Department of Studies in Political Science, was appointed as the Acting VC from Feb. 17, 2023 (since Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 are general holidays). However, his tenure will end on June 30, 2023, as per the notification issued by the Office of Under Secretary to Governor, signed by Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor of Universities, Thaawarchand Gehlot.
