Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has hinted at initiating legal action to ban Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Speaking at a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, Rana stated that the legal team of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is investigating the matter and several revelations have emerged that could result in a case against the party. However, he clarified that it is ultimately up to the courts to officially ban a political party.

The Punjab Police, along with other agencies, conducted an operation in a ‘no-go area’ in Lahore, where an alleged political leader had created an ‘atmosphere of fear.’ The police faced resistance during the execution of court orders, due to which the presence of a possible terrorist organization was reported. 65 people were arrested outside the former prime minister’s residence, most of whom do not belong to Punjab and their role is dubious.

Guns, petrol bomb making equipment, slingshots, and other weapons were recovered from Zaman Park. Earlier on Saturday, Punjab Police conducted a surprise search at Imran’s residence and arrested several party workers when they appeared before a local court in Islamabad.

Former Punjab Chief Minister and President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chaudhry Parvez Elahi described the police raid in Zaman Park as a clear violation of the orders of the Lahore High Court. According to a report, the PTI leadership has strongly condemned the ‘state-sponsored terrorism’ launched at the residence of party president Imran Khan, which they termed as a ‘London plan’ to eliminate Imran.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar said during a press conference that weapons were recovered from Imran’s house during the search operation. He stated that “we have recovered weapons from Imran Khan’s house. There are other weapons out there. It was being given the impression that it was a restricted area, but we have cleared it.”
