Boosting R&D and Innovation: UAE-Serbia Cooperation 1

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, made an official visit to Serbia to enhance cooperation between the UAE and Serbia. During her visit, Al Amiri discussed opportunities to strengthen the education system and vocational schools and cooperation in vital sectors such as science and technology, research and development, food security, agricultural technology, renewable and sustainable energy, as well as financing for each of these areas. Al Amiri emphasized the importance of cooperation in R&D, financing, commercialization, and developing financing tools. Funding opportunities in the field of research, development, and innovation were discussed, as well as the significance of advanced technology in developing various industries, and the advancement of food technology. The visit is in line with the objectives of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Serbia, which aims to increase cooperation and investment to support mutual economic development and national competitiveness.

Sarah Al Amiri Discusses Cooperation in R&D, Innovation, and Sustainability with Serbian Officials

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, made an official visit to the Republic of Serbia to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and Serbia. Al Amiri held discussions with several officials in Serbia, including Jelena Begović, Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia, Branko Ruzić, Minister of Education of Serbia, Milica Djuric-Jovicic, Director of the Science Fund of Serbia, Professor Vladimir Kostic, President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and Ivan Rakonjac, Director of the Innovation Fund.

During her visit, Al Amiri emphasized the need for cooperation in areas such as research and development (R&D), advanced technology, sustainability, food technology, innovation, energy transition, and developing legislations to help accelerate the growth of technology globally. The discussions also covered ways to ensure that these legislations are up-to-date with rapid technological development, as well as the importance of adopting advanced technology in industry to boost competitiveness.

Moreover, Al Amiri discussed opportunities to strengthen the education system and vocational schools to provide students with practical skills to enhance their competitiveness and equip them for jobs in the industry. Delegates explored funding opportunities in the field of research, development, and innovation, in addition to the development of financing programs and tools for research, aimed at supporting the exchange of knowledge and strengthening relations in the field of R&D.

The visit is in line with the objectives of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Serbia, which aims to facilitate cooperation and investment to support mutual economic development and national competitiveness. The UAE Ambassador to Serbia, Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, accompanied Al Amiri during her visit. Ali Al Hashimi, Director of Science and Technology Policies and Programs at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Amal Al Hammadi, Head of Program Management at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, also joined the UAE delegation.

Al Amiri emphasized the importance of cooperation in R&D, financing, commercialization, and developing financing tools with the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, and the Director of the Innovation Fund. She also discussed the energy transition, financing for R&D, the significance of advanced technology in developing various industries, and the advancement of food technology.

Funding Opportunities and Joint Research

During her visit, Al Amiri also discussed funding opportunities in the field of research, development, and innovation with the Director of the Science Fund of Serbia, Milica Djuric-Jovicic. Furthermore, she reviewed joint research in various priority areas with Professor Vladimir Kostic, the President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
