Senior bureaucrat, author, and former vice-chancellor of Veer Kunwar Singh University, Ishwar Chandra Kumar, passed away at the age of 88 at a hospital in Patna. Born in Jadopur village in Champaran, Kumar was the first person in his district to become an Indian Administrative Service officer. Kumar served in various capacities as a bureaucrat and later as an academician and advisor to the Central Government. He also authored several books and held a double Master’s degree and a PhD. Kumar is survived by two daughters, Divya Singh and Dr. Smita Singh, and author Amitava Kumar, and five grandchildren.
Senior Bihar bureaucrat Ishwar Chandra Kumar passes away in Patna
Ishwar Chandra Kumar, a former vice-chancellor of Veer Kunwar Singh University and the first Indian Administrative Service officer from his district, passed away at a hospital in Patna at the age of 88. Born in Jadopur village in Champaran, Kumar’s last rites will be held in Varanasi according to his wishes.
Kumar served in various roles as a bureaucrat and later as an academician and advisor to the Central Government. He worked as the principal secretary in the Food and Consumer Affairs Department, Director of Bihar State Food Corporation, and principal secretary in finance, water resources, planning and development, and road construction departments of the Bihar government.
After his retirement, he worked as the VC of Veer Kunwar University, Ara, as well as an advisor to the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Corporation and Consumer affairs. Additionally, he authored several books, including Mahila Sashaktikaran ke Sapne: Kitne Pure Kitne Adhure, Bihar Ke Prashashnik Tantra ka Vikas, Bpudhik Samaj Ki Chunoutiyan, Shahabad Ke Saput Bharat Ke Gaurav.
Kumar’s son, author Amitava Kumar, shared that his father was born in a hut and worked his way up from humble beginnings through hard work and discipline. Kumar had a great sense of discipline and even on his hospital bed, Amitava could only express his gratitude to him for showing him and his sisters the right way to live.
Kumar is survived by two daughters, Dr. Smita Singh and Divya Singh, and Amitava Kumar, as well as five grandchildren.
