Four people were injured when a decorative helicopter figurine crashed into a swimming pool full of children inside New Jersey’s American Dream mall on Sunday.
One person was rushed to hospital and three others were treated at the scene after the big screen collapsed from the ceiling of the DreamWorks water park inside the East Rutherford shopping center around 3 p.m., officials said. responsible.
The water park has been evacuated and the police are investigating the terrifying incident.
None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. Authorities did not reveal the age of the injured, but park visitors said the helicopter was hanging from a wire above a children’s pool.
The section of the water park where the exhibit dropped off is called “The Penguins Frozen Fun Zone” and is designed for toddlers, according to the American Dream website.
Visitors enjoying the water park said they heard a crash and then screams from parents and children as people began to panic.
“A large helicopter screen fell on a paddling pool and slide area! Chaos shortly after,” Angel Sanchez tweeted alongside photos of the downed helicopter. “The sound was frightening, then the screams of parents and children.”
Mall officials closed the park for the rest of the day and said it would remain closed on Monday.
“The safety of our customers is our top priority. We will thoroughly investigate this incident to ensure the park meets all required safety regulations,” American Dream officials said in a statement to NJ.com.
