Grants Awarded to Rural Fire Departments. 1

Joseph Bizjak has joined the Fairfield County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board to help make mental health services available to the county’s residents. Bizjak previously worked in the Ohio House of Representatives as a legislative service commission fellow and legislative aide, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kent State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Franklin University.

Carri L. Brown has been sworn in as the new Fairfield County Auditor, and she expressed her gratitude for the team of the County Auditor’s Office at a breakfast swearing-in ceremony. She praised the County Auditor’s team members for their dedication to serving others.

Additionally, State Rep. Kevin Miller announced funding coming to several local fire departments within Fairfield, Licking, and Perry counties through the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant program. The grants will help fire departments acquire wildland fire equipment, such as UTVs, ATVs, wildfire slip-in units, PPE, MARCS communication devices, and other items supporting rural fire department development.

Finally, the Fairfield County ADAMH Board has welcomed two new members to its Board of Trustees: Dr. Danielle Johnson-Curry and Joseph Bizjak. Dr. Johnson-Curry is a dentist at Gentle Dental Care in Lancaster, and she has provided dental care at rehabilitation facilities, including prisons and addiction services.

Clearcreek Township Fire Department receives funding for wildland fire equipment

State Representative Kevin Miller has announced funding for several local fire departments in Fairfield, Licking, and Perry counties through the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant program. The grants will help fire departments acquire wildland fire equipment, such as UTVs, ATVs, wildfire slip-in units, PPE, MARCS communication devices, and other items supporting rural fire department development.

The Clearcreek Township Fire Department in Fairfield County will receive $4,701.62, while the Madison Township Fire Department in Licking County will receive $5,000. The Hopewell Township Fire Department and the Somerset Reading Township Volunteer Fire Department in Perry County will receive $9,380 and $10,000, respectively.

Miller has a record of supporting fire department grants at the Statehouse during the previous state operating budget. He stated that the funds will be used for more efficient responses in the rural areas of the state.

Fairfield County ADAMH welcomes new board members

The Fairfield County ADAMH Board has recently added two new members to its Board of Trustees, Dr. Danielle Johnson-Curry and Joseph Bizjak. Marcy Fields, the Executive Director, stated that both individuals have a strong desire to be the change they wish to see in the community and already live the mission of creating opportunities for Fairfield County residents to be healthy members of their community.

Dr. Danielle Johnson-Curry is a dentist at Gentle Dental Care in Lancaster. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Kentucky State University in 2003 and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 2008. She completed post-graduate training through an Advanced General Dentistry Residency at The Ohio State University in 2009. Dr. Johnson-Curry has provided dental care at rehabilitation facilities, including prisons and addiction services. She also serves as an advisory board member for the Columbus State Dental Hygiene Program and previously served with the Ohio Dental Association as a Delegate and Council member of public service and access to care.

Joseph Bizjak is another new member of the Board of Trustees. No further information about Bizjak is provided.

Joseph Bizjak Joins Fairfield County ADAMH Board

Joseph Bizjak is a community-minded individual eager to help make mental health services readily available to residents of the county. Bizjak is a member of the Housing Council in Lancaster, handling matters related to tax abatements, and works full-time as the board liaison at the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

He previously worked in the Ohio House of Representatives as a legislative service commission fellow and legislative aide. He tackled issues such as senior healthcare, water quality, education, and economic development. Additionally, Bizjak clerked for the House Aging and Long-Term Care Committee and worked within the House Finance Committee. Bizjak earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Kent State University in 2014 with a concentration in American politics, and a master’s degree in business administration from Franklin University in 2021.

Bizjak will join the Fairfield County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board to help plan, fund, and monitor public mental health and substance abuse services in Fairfield County. The ADAMH Board engages key community stakeholders to provide input into its activities.

Carri L. Brown Sworn-In as Fairfield County Auditor

Carri L. Brown has been sworn in for her first four-year term as Fairfield County Auditor. Her husband, Stephen Brown, administered the oath on March 6, 2023.

Brown was appointed Acting County Auditor by the Fairfield County Commissioners on October 25, 2021, prior to being appointed by the Republican Central Committee in November 2021 to fill the remainder of an unexpired term. She was elected to office in November 2022 and will begin her elected four-year term of office on March 13, 2023.

With over 35 years of leadership experience in human services, financial management, and county administration, Brown has expressed that it is “humbling and rewarding to serve as County Auditor in the office” where she began her career in public service and drafted the first annual comprehensive financial report for the county.

Brown stated that they are truly dedicated leaders who have hearts for service to others.
