Queensland's Minister Boosts India Relations

Queensland’s Treasurer and Trade and Investment Minister, Mr. Cameron Dick, visited India to reinforce the significance of trade, investment, and relationships with the Indian Government and business organizations. One-fifth of Australia’s sports tech companies are based in Queensland, and they seek partnerships and investment with Indian businesses and Government bodies. To kickstart this initiative, Mr. Cameron organized a networking event at the Wankhede Stadium during the first ODI cricket match between India and Australia, to seek mutually beneficial associations in areas of sports technology and renewable energy. India is Queensland’s fourth-largest trading partner, with the export and import of goods valuing at $20.6 billion as of 2022. Moreover, Queensland shares a deep relationship with India, working together on the future of renewable energy and decarbonizing the economy. The partnership between India and Queensland is expected to strengthen through the game of cricket, paving the way for a prosperous partnership between India and Queensland.

Queensland’s Minister Seeks Opportunities in India for Sports Tech and Renewable Energy

The Treasurer and Trade and Investment Minister of Queensland, Mr. Cameron Dick, visited India to reinforce the significance of trade, investment, and relationships with the Indian Government and business organizations. Queensland seeks mutually beneficial associations in areas of sports technology and renewable energy, as it gears up to host the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic games in Brisbane.

Sports Tech and Queensland’s 2032 Olympic Games

As one-fifth of Australia’s sports tech companies are based in Queensland, the state seeks partnerships and investments with Indian businesses and Government bodies. To kickstart this initiative, Mr. Cameron organized a networking event at the Wankhede Stadium on 17th March, during the first ODI cricket match between India and Australia.

Some of the sports tech companies present at the event included Populous, Vald, Roo Sports, and Bio Concepts. These companies possess the capabilities of hosting large-format sport events and have shown innovation and success in areas of sports technology, sports infrastructure, architecture, and design. Furthermore, the Government of Queensland is pro-business, making it an ideal partner for sports development.

In a quote, Mr. Cameron expressed that “it makes sense to work with India, who is bidding for 2036 Games, and share our insights and experiences to help deliver world-class sports experiences with global impact.”

Renewable Energy

Queensland shares a deep relationship with India, with the export and import of goods valuing at $20.6 billion as of 2022, making India Queensland’s fourth-largest trading partner. The networking event hosted representatives from leading Indian businesses, including Reliance Energy, Air India, Godrej Group, Aditya Birla Group, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel, and many more.

Mr. Cameron emphasized the importance of the partnership between India and Queensland, working together on the future of renewable energy and decarbonizing the economy. The significance of trade, investment, and relationships were reinforced by the visit of Queensland’s Minister to India.
