Epiroc bags mining contract in DRC

Swedish company, Epiroc, has been awarded a $17m (Skr175m) mining equipment order for the Kipushi mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by JCHX Mining and Construction. The order includes several Scooptram ST14 loaders, Minetruck MT42 haul trucks, and Simba production drill rigs, along with service support, for the mine located in the Haut-Katanga province. Epiroc’s telematics system, Certiq, will monitor machine performance and productivity, and the equipment will be prepared for automation and remote control using Epiroc’s Rig Control System. The Kipushi mine produces zinc, copper, germanium, and silver and is expected to restart production in late 2024. Epiroc will deliver the machines in the near future, and the delivery will continue into early 2024. The Kipushi Corporation, a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines and DRC state-owned mining company Gécamines, owns the Kipushi mine, which will be powered by renewable hydroelectricity.
