Indian data science professionals are turning to reskilling and upskilling programs to unlock new career opportunities, according to the recently released Emeritus India Impact Survey. The survey indicates that two out of every three data science professionals polled were able to gain a competitive advantage over their peers by completing professional upskilling programs from Emeritus. Additionally, over 86% of those surveyed witnessed a positive impact on their jobs within a year of completing their program, demonstrating the immediacy of the program’s outcomes.

The ‘State of Data Science & AI Skills in India’ report 2023 published by Nasscom, the apex body for Indian IT industry, reveals a 51% gap between the demand and supply of data science professionals in India. However, the Emeritus India Impact Survey found that data science professionals who took up upskilling programs could also contribute to their organization’s growth.

Moreover, the survey identified that upskilling programs were helpful in filling gaps in the knowledge of data science professionals’ jobs, imparting valuable tools and training that they could immediately apply to their work, as well as future-proofing their careers. The survey’s findings also highlighted the effectiveness of upskilling programs, where they helped data science professionals achieve positive outcomes in a short span of time.

According to the recently released Emeritus India Impact Survey, Indian data science professionals are increasingly using reskilling and upskilling programmes to uncover new career opportunities for themselves. The survey shows that 2 out of every 3 data science professionals polled were able to gain an edge over their peers by participating in professional upskilling programmes from Emeritus.

Of those surveyed, about 86% saw a positive impact on their jobs from the programmes they undertook within a year, demonstrating the immediacy of the programme outcomes. Additionally, 1 in 2 professionals advanced in their current jobs and were also able to discover new career opportunities thanks to the programme they undertook. Most of the survey respondents belonged to the fields of software and IT services, healthcare, as well as finance and insurance.

The ‘State of Data Science & AI Skills in India’ report 2023 published by Nasscom, the apex body for Indian IT industry, reveals that there is a huge gap of at least 51% between the demand and supply of data science professionals working in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and big data analytics in India. However, the Emeritus India Impact Survey found that data science professionals who took up upskilling programmes could also contribute to their organisation’s growth. Over 60% of the professionals agreed to having witnessed a technical improvement organisationally as a result of the insights gathered from data science programmes conducted by world-renowned industry experts and thought leaders.

The survey findings highlight that upskilling programmes are an effective way for data science professionals to gain a competitive edge over their peers and advance in their careers. With such programmes being offered by Emeritus, a global leader in world-class professional education, data science professionals are able to achieve positive outcomes in a short span of time.

According to the Emeritus India Impact Survey 2022, professional upskilling programmes from Emeritus helped data science professionals to fill gaps in their knowledge of their jobs (61%), provide valuable tools and training that they could apply to their work (63%), and future-proof their careers (56%). These programmes also had a positive impact on organizational growth.

Mr. Mohan Kannegal, CEO, India and APAC, Emeritus, expressed his views on the survey’s findings, stating that no sector can remain untouched by data science and analytics in today’s world. The Emeritus India Impact Survey 2022 pointed to several positive signs that upskilling helps not just at an individual level, but also at an organizational level.

The survey was conducted in September 2022 with learners who completed Emeritus professional education programmes through its partner schools before June 2022.
