Meet ABAC's New Provost

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has appointed Dr. J. Michael Kiefer as its new provost and vice president for academic and student affairs. ABAC President Tracy Brundage expressed confidence in Dr. Kiefer, citing his familiarity with the University System of Georgia and his vast experience in academic affairs, making an immediate positive impact on the institution. Dr. Kiefer is set to assume his new role on May 15. Dr. Willis, who served as the acting provost and vice president for academic affairs at ABAC, will continue to serve as an ABAC administrator. Dr. Kiefer has held various positions in the academic sector, including being the associate provost for academic and faculty affairs and campus dean at the State College of Florida. Kiefer’s experience at the State College of Florida spans several years, where he served as the dean of academic affairs and campus dean for two years, overseeing 10,000 college credit students each semester.

Dr. J. Michael Kiefer Appointed as ABAC’s New Provost and VP

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has appointed Dr. J. Michael Kiefer as its new provost and vice president for academic and student affairs. Dr. Kiefer will replace Dr. Amy Willis, who has been serving as the acting provost and vice president for academic affairs since July 31, 2022, following Dr. Jerry Baker’s retirement.

According to ABAC President Tracy Brundage, Kiefer is the right fit for the position, citing his vast experience in academic affairs. Kiefer has held various positions in the academic sector, including being the associate provost for academic and faculty affairs and campus dean at the State College of Florida, where he has worked since 2018.

Kiefer’s experience at the State College of Florida spans several years, where he served as the dean of academic affairs and campus dean for two years, overseeing 10,000 college credit students each semester. He was also the dean of health and physical education and director of athletics at Darton State College in Albany for several years before joining the State College of Florida.

Kiefer’s educational qualifications include a doctor of education degree in curriculum and leadership in higher education from Columbus State University, a juris doctor degree from the Concord Law School of Purdue University Global, a master of science degree in exercise and sport science from the University of Central Missouri, a bachelor of science degree in psychology from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and an associate of arts degree from State Fair (Mo.) Community College.

ABAC President Brundage expressed gratitude to Dr. Willis for her dedicated service, citing her 25-year history with the college. She also expressed confidence in Dr. Kiefer, saying that his familiarity with the University System of Georgia and his vast experience in academic affairs would be critical in making an immediate positive impact on the institution.

Dr. Kiefer is set to assume his new role on May 15, and his appointment has been received positively by ABAC’s academic and administrative staff.
