Who are the 2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Allstars after the end of the NHL All-Star hiatus?

This week’s article looks at the Fantasy All-Star Teams from the first half. For the purposes of this column, we’ve tried to avoid clear first-round picks, because what’s the fun in picking them up? More importantly, we didn’t include them because the expectations for these players were already elevated.

Keeper Fantasy leagues may have seen some of these players leave due to first-round retention, but the main focus here is on league redesigns.

(All stats for 2022-23 refer to Monday’s games)

First team

Days Thompson, C, BUF

Thompson made a big step up last season, scoring 38 goals, 68 points (including 16 with man advantage) and 253 shots in 78 games. Those numbers came after Thompson had just 18 goals and 35 points in his first 140 NHL games. Thompson, who signed a seven-year, $50 million contract extension with the Sabers last August, has shown last year’s surge in production was no fluke as he has 34 goals and 68 points in 50 games.

One caveat is that Thompson missed the All-Star Game with an upper-body injury that plagued him last week, so check his status going forward.

Jason Robertson, LW, DAL

Robertson achieved elite status with his game in his first two and a half seasons in the league. Robertson, a second-round pick in 2017, was a Calder Trophy finalist in his first full NHL season. Robertson built on that success in 2021-22 as he was one of only 17 NHL players to score 40 goals or more (41), while his 79 points put him in the league’s top 35. He has taken another step forward this season, recording 33 goals and as many assists in 51 games. He will be a top pick in next year’s fantasy drafts.

Mitch Marner, RW, TOR

Marner was a borderline first-round fantasy pick coming into the season after returning to the highs of his 2018-19 campaign with 35 goals and 62 assists in 72 games. His performance that year has been consistent with 19 goals and 41 assists in 52 games, albeit with just over a point tally per game. Marner came into the All-Star break with 18 points in his last 15 games and his performance could improve as Toronto relies on him even more Austin Matthews (lower body) pushed to one side.

But if you want to exchange Marner for William Nylander You won’t get any arguments from me here.

Rasmus Dahlin, D, BUF

Those who consistently read this column know that I hate involving two players from the same team in bold treatment. But it would be almost criminal, and I wouldn’t be doing my duty if I didn’t have Dahlin as a first-team fantasy all-star. Dahlin, the first overall winner of 2018, has already set a new career high in goals (14), assists (44) and points (55) in 49 games. Buffalo would be wise to keep him long-term like Thompson did, but his asking price has rightfully increased significantly this season.

Erik Karlsson D, SJ

Karlsson was likely a late-round pick in most leagues as he played fewer than 57 games for a fourth straight season while his performance was nothing special. One component that we all may not have considered enough was trade Brent Burns against Carolina, allowing Karlsson to open up additional ice time (particularly with man advantage). He has more than reignited his career this year, recording 16 goals and 50 assists in 51 games. That puts him in position to surpass a career-high 82 points he scored in Ottawa in 2015-16. Karlsson’s name has featured prominently in trade rumours, although his contract (four more years at an AAV of $11.5 million) will make trading him a little difficult.

Linus Ullmark, G, BOS

Fantasy leagues are won by avoiding big mistakes, keeping your stars healthy, making good catch-ups, and finding late-round gems. Ullmark showed last season that he was a better goaltender than he was when he was with Buffalo, posting a 26-10-2 record with a 2.45 GAAA and a .917 save percentage in 41 on games while sharing time with Jeremy Swayman. This year, he showed those numbers were no fluke when he made the all-star break with a 26-4-1 record, a 1.90 GAA and a .937 save percentage in 33 games. However, he and Swayman can take turns the rest of the way, so Ullmark may not finish the season as a First-Team Fantasy All-Star at goaltender.

second team

Jack Hughes, C, NJ

Hughes, the first overall pick in 2019, had the expected breakout last season but was limited to just 49 games due to injuries. The rising strength this offseason raised expectations that this was the year Hughes took his place in the league’s pantheon. So far so good as Hughes has up to 35 goals, 67 points, 229 shots from the net and a Plus 15 rating in 50 competitions. Hughes has become a true first-line center, and Wayne Gretzky said during the All-Star break that Hughes is the only one he thinks can challenge him Connor McDavid. Intoxicating praise indeed.

Matthew Tkachuk, LW, FLA

Tkachuk had 43 goals and 61 assists in Calgary last season, matching his performance from the previous two seasons. After this brilliant campaign, Tkachuk was relocated to Florida as part of a deal Jonathan Huberdeau And MacKenzie Weegar. It took Tkachuk a while to find his sea legs in the Sunshine State, but he’s been cooking with gas for a while. He has up to 27 goals and 44 assists in 50 games, putting him in position to top last year’s totals. Additionally, Tkachuk was named All-Star MVP in front of his hometown fans.

David Pastrnak, RW, BOS

Pasta has also become the most important driver of the Perfection Line Patrice Bergeron And Brad Marchand. We thought 2019-20, when Pastrnak recorded 48 goals and 47 assists, could be the pinnacle of his career, but he’s on track to break that total after recording 38 points and dishing 34 apples in 51 games. Pastrnak signed a six-year, $40 million deal with the Bruins in September 2017, a deal that was a huge bargain for the Bs. Pastrnak is an unrestricted free agent after the year and at 26 should easily hit double-digit AAV on any signing.

Miro Heiskanen, D, DAL

John KlingerbergIt was expected that Heiskanen’s departure would result in an increase in production for Heiskanen, who would eventually be the captain on the Dallas blueline, while maintaining both strength and man advantage. Heiskanen scored between 27 and 36 points in his first four years in the league after being picked third overall in 2017, but you wanted more. With Klingberg now out of the picture, Heiskanen has begun to live up to those high expectations, posting 40 points (18 on power play), a Plus 11 rating, 132 shots at the net and 59 blocked shots in 49 appearances as true Blueliner Number 1.

Dougie Hamilton, D, NJ

Hamilton, who signed a seven-year, $63 million deal from the Devils in July 2021, struggled through multiple injuries in his first season with New Jersey, eventually missing 20 of New Jersey’s 82 regular-season games and scoring just 30 points. Its production this season has put that difficult campaign into the retrospective. Hamilton has up to 13 goals, 36 assists, a Plus 18 rating, 179 shots at the net, 51 blocks, 42 hits and 34 PIM in 50 games. He only needs a point to make a career-best 50, which he set with the Flames in 2016-17.

Alexander Georgiev, G, COL

Georgiev was profiled last week and will receive the second-team nod as he is likely to be drafted in most leagues. Connor Hellebuyck and others were considered here, but Georgiev was likely chosen later than these Netminders. Georgiev, who was acquired by the Rangers for draft picks this offseason, signed a three-year, $10.2 million deal with the Avalanche last July that so far has looked like a steal for the Avs. Georgiev is 20-11-3 with 2.60 GAA and 0.919 SV%, numbers that look even more impressive given the myriad injuries the Avalanche have sustained this season.

Others include Elias Pettersson, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Brock Nelson, William Nylander, Brandon Hagel, Travis Konecny, Timo Meier, Jesper Bratt, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle, Alex Tuch, Zach Hyman, Josh Morrissey, Brandon Montour, Vince Dunn , Jake Oettinger, Logan Thompson, Vitek Vanecek.
