The American, who was brought in to replace Marcelo Bielsa almost a year ago in February 2022, leaves the club in a precarious position with just four wins in the league all season. Marsch had been under increasing pressure from the fans, who had chanted “Jesse, Jesse, time to go” during the weekend’s loss. This was after similar calls from the supporters during their 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa earlier this month. With Leeds on the edge of the relegation zone, ahead of 18. FC Everton on goal difference alone, Marsch had been unable to turn performances into wins and his time at the club had become increasingly strained. He had picked up just two wins in their last 17 league games and his final statement after the game was a humble acceptance of responsibility. “I take full responsibility and I have to find a way to turn performances into wins. I understand and accept the frustration and the doubts. I have to turn the good things into results or we’re going to be in a stressful situation.” Leeds face a difficult schedule in the upcoming games. They play twice in the league next week against Manchester United, starting at Old Trafford on Wednesday. With a new manager at the helm, Leeds may yet be able to turn their fortunes around and avoid the drop.
