Following two pedestrian fatalities within the pace two months at the Maple Ridge portion of the Lougheed Freeway, the Ridge Meadows RCMP Highway Protection Goal Group (RSTT) has greater its presence at the freeway to strengthen driving force and pedestrian protection.

Cpl. Julie Klaussner defined that the pristine pedestrian protection program, titled Challenge Mama Duck, used to be introduced on Thursday, February ninth.
RSTT contributors patrolled the Lougheed Freeway between Laity Boulevard and the Haney Redirection from 4 p.m. to ten p.m. Thursday, retaining an ocular out for violating drivers and pedestrians.
“While on patrol, RSTT officers observed pedestrians attempting to cross the Lougheed Highway outside of marked intersections. They also observed that drivers do not avoid pedestrians who were on marked zebra crossings,” mentioned Klaußner. “While the primary objective was primarily education, observing multiple violations resulted in fines being issued to both drivers and pedestrians.”
Sergeant Crystal Heisler mentioned each drivers and pedestrians will have to do their phase to reserve society streets a cover park for all.
“Police want to remind motorists to leave their phones alone because distracted driving is a safety risk for pedestrians,” Heisler mentioned. “Police also want to remind pedestrians to use marked crosswalks and make sure you wear light-colored clothing and make sure you’re visible to motorists.”
Challenge Mama Duck shall be a ordinary tactic for the RSTT, with a robust presence alongside this stretch of the Lougheed Freeway.
