“Raptors 905 Fans Set New Guinness World Record for Largest Cape Gatherings”
It was a record-breaking night in Mississauga Monday as 2,854 enthusiastic Raptors 905 fans donned red capes to support a good cause.
The NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors hosted its Cape for Kids Night with Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and Raptors forward Pascal Siakam’s PS43 Foundation Canada at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

Siakam, who instructed fans to put on their capes between the first and second quarters for the record attempt, says it was worth lending his name to the cause.
“They’re going through a lot and if there’s anything we can do then we can help them – and sometimes a little bit is a lot and we don’t even realize it, so anything we can just to help is really important for these kids. ‘ says Siakam.

“When the opportunity presented itself to work with Pascal and take this opportunity to break the Guinness Book of World Records for most cape worn at an event, it was a no-brainer,” said Courtney Charles, Vice President of Basketball and Franchise Operations at Raptor’s 905.

The previous record of 2,266 was set back in September 2019 by a group of fans wearing Batman capes at Warner Brothers World in Abu Dhabi.
A portion of ticket proceeds from Monday’s game went to the hospital’s annual Capes for Kids fundraiser, which aims to raise $1 million to help children and youth with disabilities.
“When they’re at Holland Bloorview, it’s really utopian. It’s the only place where kids are seen, where their differences are celebrated, where they aren’t bullied. Children with disabilities have the highest rates of bullying and mental health problems,” says Sandra Hawken, President and CEO of the Holland Bloorview Foundation.
Hawken says reducing the stigma surrounding disability is important and Holland Bloorview is helping children lead meaningful lives.
Capes for Kids, currently in its seventh year, has raised over $4.3 million to date, with the money going towards research, education and care at Holland Bloorview.

The red capes, which will be worn throughout the campaign, which runs through March, are designed to stimulate conversations about child disability and inclusion.
