BC SPCA’s North Cariboo Branch in Prince George is caring for a nine-year-old pit bull terrier who was tied to a railing in downtown Prince George.
According to the BC SCPA, the dog had a note on its collar urging someone to take care of it.
“A Good Samaritan found Rolo tied up outside her workplace, and the first thing she did was contact us down at the animal center,” said Kristen Sumner, animal center manager at the North Cariboo BC SPCA.
“She brought him to us straight away and we took him to the vet.”
During the visit to the vet, it was determined that Rolo had ringworm on his face and legs, he was underweight, and a large mass that had formed on his leg was benign.

He underwent surgery to remove the mass, a dentist, treated for ring work, and was put on a nutritional plan.
“The path here at BC SPCA is not uncommon,” added Sumner.
“We get abandoned animals, but they’re usually closer to us, but the way he was there they were able to take care of him and bring him to us straight away.”
Sumner said when it comes to people who need to bring their animals back, they have a waiting list.
“Unfortunately, we have to prioritize some shots, but Rolo, these animals are coming in, and there’s no way they’re not going to get the care they need,” she said.
“We will make sacrifices, we will set up foster parents, we will put them where we can get them the help they need to make sure we can take them in. Animals like this, however, always bring a wrench of sorts to the scheme of other revenue.”
Sumner added the North Cariboo Branch where they had space to accommodate Rolo and they now have 18 dogs in their care.
She said that eventually they will look for a foster caretaker for Rolo, he will eventually be put up for adoption.
