Boost Your Employability with Emerging Tech Minor Courses

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced minor courses in emerging technologies for core engineering students to boost their employability in the job market. The initiative, which began in 2021, was initially introduced for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electrical Engineering (EE) students but has now been extended to all engineering streams. Mechanical Engineering students can take up minors in Aerodynamics and Artificial Intelligence, while Chemical Engineering students can take up minors in Polymers and Biomolecules. Students can earn 18 to 20 credit points upon completion of the minor courses, which will be included in their grades. The minor courses are aimed at helping students acquire knowledge in emerging technologies relevant to their major degree. The courses will be offered online, and teachers will be trained to teach the emerging technologies. The initiative is aimed at enhancing students’ employment opportunities in the ever-changing job market dominated by AI, Cloud, and cybersecurity, among others.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced minor courses in several new subjects, such as semiconductors, integrated circuits, advanced VLSI design, and 5G technology, among others, to help core engineering students learn technologies that are in demand in the job market. The initiative, which was introduced in 2021 for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electrical Engineering (EE), will be extended to all engineering streams.

The minor courses are aimed at helping students from other core engineering streams, and Mechanical Engineering students can take up minors in Aerodynamics and Artificial Intelligence, while Chemical Engineering students can take up minors in Polymers and Biomolecules. The minor courses will enable students to earn 18 to 20 credit points, which will be included in their grades upon completion of the degree.

According to Buddha Chandrasekhar, the Chief Coordinating Officer at AICTE, students must take minor subjects that are related to their major degree to boost their employability. Pursuing a minor would also broaden the knowledge base of students, which is essential to be better placed in the ever-changing job market. The minor courses will be offered online, and teachers will be trained to teach the emerging technologies.

This initiative is expected to boost outcome-based learning as the industry has become technology-driven, and the market is dominated by AI, Cloud, and cybersecurity, among others. The move is also aimed at enhancing students’ employment opportunities, especially considering the current job market’s demands.
