Meet the candidates for Elon's 2023-24 student government

Elon University’s Student Government Association elections will take place between March 27 and March 28. A total of 33 candidates will be running in these elections, including those vying for the positions of student body president, vice president of finance, finance board members, and academic senators. All students are eligible to vote through PhoenixCONNECT, and several candidates are running for multiple positions. Elon University Student Government Association Announces 33 Candidates for 2023-24 Academic Year Elections

Elon University’s Student Government Association has revealed the candidates for the 2023-24 academic year elections. The elections will take place from 8 a.m. on March 27 to 5 p.m. on March 28. There are 33 candidates running for positions, including class representatives, academic senators, and finance board members. All students can vote on PhoenixCONNECT, a platform that allows them to choose their preferred candidates.

Student Body Presidential Candidates

Two students are running for the position of student body president: Britt Mobley and Curran Gilster.

Britt Mobley is a Strategic Communications and Outdoor Leadership Education major. Mobley is enthusiastic about building campus connections and bringing the campus community together. According to Mobley, the rest of the senators also have valuable connections that can help the campus progress.

Curran Gilster is a Political Science major who wants to represent the student body effectively. Gilster believes that he has a good understanding of the issues, but he also wants to learn from the students to better represent them.

Vice President of Finance Candidates

Two students are running for the position of vice president of finance: Gabriella Gutiérrez and Ryan Lockwood.

Gabriella Gutiérrez is an Entrepreneurship major and has been a member of the student government since her freshman year. Gutiérrez enjoys the opportunity to organize events for student organizations.

Ryan Lockwood is a Marketing major who is passionate about the work the organization does for the campus community. Lockwood is looking forward to progressing and thinks he can be beneficial to the organization.

Finance Board Candidates

Three students are running for finance board positions: Zeth Dixon, Tori Kelleher, and Nikki Sripathi.

Senior Class President Candidates

Three students are running for the position of Senior Class President: Demetria Hall, Chloe Higgins, and Genesis Tolbert.

Demetria Hall is an Elementary Education major and has been in the Student Government Association for a few years. Hall wants to bring unity, community, and collaboration to the Senior Class to ensure they have the best year possible.

Chloe Higgins is a Political Science and Economics major. Higgins is excited to continue running events and promoting goals for the Senior Class.

Genesis Tolbert is also running for Senior Class President.

Senior Class Treasurer Candidate

Daniel Nickel is running for the position of Senior Class Treasurer. Nickel is a Political Science and Policy Studies major.

Elon University Announces Junior and Sophomore Class Candidates for the 2023-24 Academic Year

Elon University has announced the candidates for the 2023-24 academic year for the positions of junior and sophomore class representatives. Junior Class President Candidates

Alexander Siler is a candidate for Junior Class President. Siler is an Entrepreneurship major and is running to make a difference and voice students’ concerns.

Junior Class Senator Candidates

Alexis Cooper, a Journalism major, is running for Junior Class Senator to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the class. Claire Cohen, a Marketing and Cinema and Television Arts major, is a former senator who loved advocating for her peers and wants to continue doing so.

Sophomore Class President Candidates

Madeline Mitchener is running for Sophomore Class President to continue advocating for her peers, with a particular focus on issues she is passionate about, including public health and policy studies. Selma Maric is running to increase student engagement on campus and promote positivity. Morgan Lynch wants to advocate for her community, promote meaningful change, and address real issues.

Sophomore Class Senator Candidates

Anya Bratić is running to advocate for student needs and listen to their wants. Divesh Anchaliya is running to make a difference in people’s lives and listen to any concerns, comments, or questions they may have. Julie Snow, a Psychology and Human Service Studies major, is running to represent her peers and bring their concerns to SGA.

All of these candidates have unique motivations for running and want to make a positive impact on the Elon University community. The election results will be announced after the voting period ends on March 28.

Sophomore Class Senator Candidates

Lauren Kulda, a Business Analytics and Marketing major, is running to be an advocate for the freshman class and make Elon more inclusive for everyone. Lexi Riolo, a Cinema and Television Arts and Strategic Communications major, is running to continue having an impact on the change that comes with Elon University. Savannah Ginda, a Sociology major, is running again to continue the work that has been done and to make Elon University a better place.

Jack Poulos, a Finance and Accounting major, has experience as class treasurer and is running to continue helping the freshman class. Noah Biggers, an Accounting major, is running to promote change on Elon’s campus.

School of Communications Senator Candidate

Jack Sheppard, a Sports Management major, is running to ensure the School of Communications is the best it can be.

College of Arts and Sciences Senator Candidates

Connor Vaughn, a Political Science and History major, is running to effect meaningful change and allow his voice to be heard. Chase Albritton, a Computer Science major, is running to represent people in his school and other STEM disciplines.

Love School of Business Senator Candidates

Eva Real, a Finance major, is running to see more representation in the Love School of Business as a Hispanic woman. Nic Fillippa, a Marketing major, is running to represent the people in the business school as best as possible and make positive improvements.

School of Education and School of Health Sciences Senator Candidates

Julia Strouse and Amanda Jacobson are running for the School of Education and School of Health Sciences, respectively. Their motivations for running have not been provided.

These candidates have a wide range of experiences, motivations, and goals for their positions. The results of the election will be announced after the voting period ends on March 28.
