Marcus Rashford becomes the first Manchester United player since Wayne Rooney to achieve a feat with Cristiano Ronaldo in his sights after Leicester goal 1

Marcus Rashford has become the first Manchester United player since Wayne Rooney to score in seven consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford.

The England international scored against the run of play in Sunday’s clash with Leicester after Bruno Fernandes fed the in-form forward with a delightful pass after 24 minutes.

And Rashford got it right one-on-one against Danny Ward, a position the striker can’t seem to miss these days.

It saw United score a goal as the 25-year-old became the first player since Rooney to score in seven consecutive Premier League home games for United in the process.

Rooney started his goalscoring record in December 2009 which lasted until March 2010, making it eight consecutive league games at Old Trafford in total.

But Rashford has three games at Old Trafford to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 10 consecutive games – although the form the Englishman is showing few would bet against him.

He continues United’s brilliant season under Erik ten Hag, whose strike was his 23rd of the campaign in all competitions.

As a result, it means Rashford has already beaten his best tally for the Red Devils in 2019/20, when he netted 22 goals.

And there’s plenty more to come from the striker, who has looked on as a new player under Ten Hag’s tutelage and is coming off a miserable season.

Last year, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, he scored just five goals in all competitions and there was serious talk of leaving Old Trafford amid interest from Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain.

But there is no way United will consider the departure of their star, who has now scored nine goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances.

His latest strike against Leicester couldn’t have come at a better time after the Foxes put their opponents in the lurch for the first 20 minutes.

David de Gea was called off twice early on before Wout Faes handed the ball to Fernandes, who ran through Rashford with a brilliant pass.

The United striker hasn’t been wrong as another win will only fan the flames over a potential Premier League title raid under the noses of Arsenal and Manchester City.
