S&P/TSX Composite Index Lower in Late Morning Session, US Markets Follow Suit

Canada’s main stock index was lower in late morning trading as losses in the base metals sector helped lead stocks lower, while US stock markets also fell earlier in the week.
The S&P/TSX composite index fell 82.08 points to 20,676.26.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 53.47 points to 33,872.54. The S&P 500 Index fell 13.80 points to 4,122.68, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 43.00 points to 11,963.96.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 74.37 US cents compared to 74.68 US cents on Friday.
The March crude oil contract fell 58 cents to $72.81 a barrel and the March natural gas contract fell a cent to $2.40 a mmBTU.

The April gold contract rose $3.00 to $1,879.60 an ounce and the March copper contract fell 4 cents to $4.01 a pound.
