Microsoft is more optimistic than ever about its Bing search engine, which is getting a major upgrade by integrating ChatGPT’s underlying technology.
That exuberance was felt in an internal report that analyzed the positive online sentiment surrounding Microsoft’s close relationship with ChatGPT maker OpenAI, Insider previously reported. Microsoft is investing heavily in OpenAI and is expected to integrate the startup’s technology into its other products, such as the Office software suite.
In the internal report, created by Sprinklr and viewed by Insider, the authors asked the OpenAI chatbot to write a “fun limerick about how Microsoft beats Google by integrating ChatGPT with Bing.”
ChatGPT replied:
“Once upon a time there was a search engine called Bing
Which was struggling and not doing much
But with ChatGPT on its side
It finally got its pride
And left Google to search for his next fling.
Launched in 2009, Bing still lags far behind Google’s search engine, which accounts for about 90% of the market. The sudden emergence of ChatGPT and its partnership with Microsoft has sparked renewed interest in Bing as a potential threat to Google, Insider previously reported.
On Tuesday, Microsoft introduced a number of new features for Bing powered by ChatGPT’s AI technology, such as interactive chat and summaries. A day earlier, Google presented Bard, a new chatbot that competes with ChatGPT.
“AI will fundamentally transform every software category, starting with the biggest category of all — search,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote in a blog post on Tuesday.
