What is the premise of Freeridge?
Freeridge is a new Netflix comedy-drama series and spin-off of on my block. The show follows two teenage sisters and their friends as they deal with a mysterious curse placed on them by an old box. Freeridge‘s characters perpetuate the on my block Legacy of an eccentric “Core Four” friend group entwined in forces greater than themselves.
The new series’ predecessor ended after four seasons in 2021. However, the finale hinted at the spin-off to follow when the new quartet made a brief cameo appearance.
“[Freeridge co-creator Lauren Iungerich] the one who said, “This isn’t like ‘On My Block,’ you’re not here to replace him. This is called core four, but we’re not replacing core four; you follow in their footsteps. They built this for you. You carry it on,’” said Bryana Salaz, who plays Ines The wrap.

Will there be a 2nd season of Freeridge?
Critics and viewers raved Freeridge after the spin-off debuted on February 2nd. “While Freeridge appears as a lighter show than its predecessor, sharing the same empathetic heart, playful sense of humor and, most importantly, deeply endearing affection for its young leads.” The Hollywood Reporter said in her official review of the series.

With an impressive 86 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it would be fitting for Netflix to renew the series for a second season. However, the streaming platform has yet to announce whether Freeridge got the green light for season 2. But given on my block‘s four-season run and Freeridge‘s widely recognized success, the possibility of an extension is very likely.

What would be the premise of Freeridge Season 2?
If on my block wrapped its fourth season in 2021, co-creator Jeremy Haft made it clear that there is still a lot to discover in the Freeridge universe.
“The world of Freeridge is very rich and vibrant, with countless stories to tell. We always had a little glimmer of hope that we would continue the Freeridge stories,” Haft said TVLine after on my block‘s finale. “Happily, and with great gratitude, we say thank you to Netflix for allowing us to continue telling these stories.”
The season one finale revealed that Marisol’s curse didn’t really affect the four main characters. However, the cliffhanger left viewers with questions that only a second season could answer. Freeridge Season 2 would likely explore whether or not Mariluna actually died, Gloria and Ines’ father’s cancer treatment, the kiss between Rusty and Ines, and more.

“We have a lot of theories on our side,” said Bryana Salaz Teen Vogue. “We’re in exactly the same position as you because we don’t know what’s happening and we’re just as dying to know as you are!”
