“Aldergrove Family Raises Funds for Cancer Battle With Poker Night Fundraiser February 18th at Legion Hall”
The Mangat family of Aldergrove will call Cancer’s Bluff on Saturday February 18th when their Poker Night fundraiser returned to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Aldergrove.
Since 2015, the family has held fundraisers in honor of Jodi Mangat’s mother, Surjit Dhillon, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2014 at the age of 72.
“Our family has seen firsthand how this disease can take over and completely devastate a family’s life,” Mangat told the Langley Advance Times.
“Over the years we’ve grown and the community has helped us and our fundraisers have only gotten bigger.”
They started with one poker night a year which has expanded to two poker nights a year and now in addition to the poker nights in August they host a softball tournament all focused on helping families affected by childhood cancer.
Their poker night has a limit of 100 players “and we have a waiting list with even more players who want to play,” Mangat said.
This year they hope to raise $5,000 from the poker nights.
A second poker night will be held in the summer and the family’s third annual softball tournament is scheduled for August 27th and 28th.

The Mangat Family Poker Night fundraiser to help fight cancer and help local families is taking place on Saturday, February 18th at Legion Hall, 26607 Fraser Hwy with a $75 buy-in, unlimited re-buys of $20 for the first two hours and a $20 top-up on the second break.
There will be a top 8 payout and a 50/50 draw and raffle.
The game starts at 12:30 p.m. Doors open at 11:00 a.m., food will be served after the second break. There will be a cash bar.
