Asbury University ends unbroken revival as president no longer allows 24-hour worship 1

ASBURY, Ky. (FOX 56) — The University of Asbury is finally ending its unbroken renaissance after more than 10 days, University of Asbury President Dr. Kevin J. Brown announced.

Brown said he tries to balance the amazing time at school with the needs of the students and their academic experience.

The last evening public service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, but public worship will continue in the afternoon until Wednesday.

In a statement released by the University, Brown said:

“While I remain deeply grateful that staff, faculty, and students are part of God’s unique and mighty work on our campus, I want to be mindful of my tenure as a trustee of Asbury’s resources and the centered mission on the students.

After much prayer and discussion with campus management, I am announcing our new schedule for next week. This calendar is an attempt to recognize and manage this beautiful historic moment of spiritual renewal while rapidly moving towards a more sustainable campus experience for our students that promotes predictability, well-being, and continuity.

Along with a new calendar, we are working with several groups to increase security, prayer and ministry support, event management, and overall logistical planning.

Brown continued to express how thrilled and moved he was to have been there and to be part of what he called a manifestation of spiritual hunger.

“I have been so inspired and encouraged by the revival that has transformed the lives of students and guests. I have also been deeply inspired by the incredible spirit of our staff, faculty and students at Asbury. I have seen men and women go above and beyond in every way imaginable to welcome our visitors so they can meet the Lord on our campus. I saw faculty and staff working between classes to clean up, open lines, distribute water, and pray with students. I asked students to share their desire to make space for guests to experience what they have.

Never in my life will I forget him. Never in my life have I been so proud to say that I am part of the University of Asbury. I write this with tears. The people here are so special.
