Last week on Friday Night SmackDown, a fatal five-way match took place to determine who would challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. However, the match ended in controversy when both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre scored a pinfall, counted by two separate referees. To settle the dispute, a singles match was set up for SmackDown the following week.
Drew McIntyre and Sheamus battled it out on Friday night, but Imperium’s Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser interfered, leading to a disqualification finish. After the match, Adam Pearce appeared on the screen and announced that Gunther will now be facing both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 39 in a triple threat match.
WrestleMania 39 will be held at the SoFi Stadium on April 1 and April 2, and the current card includes a United WWE Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, a SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley, a Raw Women’s Championship match between Bianca Belair and Asuka, a United States Championship match between John Cena and Austin Theory, and a Hell in a Cell match between Finn Balor and Edge.
