Lowry Knocks Spieth Out

Shane Lowry caused an upset by knocking Jordan Spieth out of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play after defeating him 2&1 at the Austin Country Club. Lowry had already been eliminated from the tournament, but Spieth’s erratic display gave Lowry an opportunity to take a five-hole lead at the turn. Max Homa advanced to the knockout stages for the first time after Hideki Matsuyama withdrew from their match due to a neck injury. Matsuyama’s withdrawal gave Homa his third win of the week, but Homa expressed his concern for Matsuyama’s health and wished him a speedy recovery.

Shane Lowry caused an upset by beating Jordan Spieth 2&1 at the Austin Country Club, knocking the three-time major winner out of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Lowry had already been eliminated from the tournament after losing his previous two matches, but Spieth’s erratic display gave Lowry an opportunity to take a five-hole lead at the turn. He held on to his lead to complete a 2&1 victory. Mackenzie Hughes defeated Taylor Montgomery 6&5 in the other match in group 12, setting up a play-off between the pair. Meanwhile, Max Homa became the first player to reach the last 16, after Hideki Matsuyama withdrew due to a neck injury. Matsuyama’s withdrawal gave Homa his third win of the week, but the player expressed his concern about Matsuyama’s health and wished him a speedy recovery.
