Lynn English Athletics: Spring into Action!

Monday marked the start of the spring sports season at Lynn English, and Athletic Director Dick Newton is excited to see more students participate due to the nice weather. Newton believes that the most important thing for student-athletes is to have a positive experience, regardless of whether they win or lose. Volleyball is a new addition to the Lynn schools, and the school plans to have a varsity-only schedule this year. According to Newton, there are no overpowering teams in the Greater Boston League this season. English will face non-league teams like Gloucester, Saugus, and Masco in baseball, while softball will take on both Melrose and Lynn Tech twice. Newton also spoke highly of Lynn Classical’s strong girls tennis and softball teams and looks forward to competing against them this year. Rain or shine, Lynn English is ready for the spring sports season, and Newton is optimistic about the students’ participation and overall experience.

Newton believes that the most important thing for student-athletes is to have a positive experience, regardless of whether they win or lose.

English has three new coaches for boys track, girls tennis, and boys volleyball. Volleyball is a new addition to the Lynn schools, and the school plans to have a varsity-only schedule this year. Newton hopes to add a junior varsity team next year, as the school looks to get more students interested in the sport.

According to Newton, there are no overpowering teams in the Greater Boston League this season. English will face non-league teams like Gloucester, Saugus, and Masco in baseball, while softball will take on both Melrose and Lynn Tech twice.

Newton also spoke highly of Lynn Classical’s strong girls tennis and softball teams and looks forward to competing against them this year. He’s especially looking forward to the rivalry game in baseball, as he’s a big baseball fan and admires Classical’s coach, Mike Zukowski.

Finally, Newton admits that the weather is the biggest challenge for an Athletic Director, as rain can force them to reschedule games.

Rain or shine, Lynn English is ready for the spring sports season, and Newton is optimistic about the students’ participation and overall experience.
