High School Standouts Inducted! 1

Mike Tomasovich and Dick Reasbeck, two multi-sport high school standouts, have been selected for induction into the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Hall of Fame. Tomasovich was a highly-honored nine-letter athlete at Weir High School who earned five all-state honors and helped the Red Riders win state titles in football and baseball, and also earned all-state tournament in basketball. Reasbeck was a sharp-shooting Irish guard from Bellaire St. John Central who earned 1st team, five-player All-Ohio largest Class AA as a senior. He also earned a scholarship to Ohio State, where he played on nationally-ranked basketball teams and was a three-year letterman.

Tomasovich and Reasbeck will be inducted on August 12, 2023, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, and they will join a list of other inductees for the Class of 2023. The OVAC Hall of Fame and Sports Museum are located inside WesBanco Arena, and the Robinson Auto Group sponsors the OVAC Hall of Fame.

Dick Reasbeck, a guard from Bellaire St. John Central, has been selected for induction into the Hall of Fame. Reasbeck was named to the first team, five-player All-Ohio largest Class AA during his senior year, and he was also named to the first team All-OVAC Class AA and All-District. Reasbeck scored 501 points with an average of 27.1 points per game, and he played in the annual Ohio North-South All-Star Game. Reasbeck was a three-year regular in baseball and played football for two seasons.

Reasbeck earned a scholarship to Ohio State University, where he played on nationally-ranked teams for three years. In his sophomore year, the Buckeyes went unbeaten in the regular season, finishing 27-1 overall and finishing as NCAA runner-up to Cincinnati. He averaged 3.1 points. In his junior year, the Buckeyes (26-2) finished as NCAA runner-up to Cincinnati again, with Reasbeck averaging 8.2 points in a sixth-man role. In his senior year, the Buckeyes finished with a 20-4 record, and Reasbeck was a regular, averaging 15.1 points a game and earning second-team All-Big Ten Conference honors. He scored a high 32 points vs. Purdue.

Reasbeck signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 1963 and pitched for two seasons for the Class AA minor league San Jose team. Reasbeck currently resides in Yorkville.

Tomasovich was highly honored and stood at 6-foot-4 and weighed 205 pounds. He earned five all-state honors and helped the Red Riders win state titles in football and baseball, and also earned all-state tournament in basketball. Tomasovich graduated in the Class of 1959.

In football, Tomasovich was a junior starter at quarterback and helped lead his team to an 11-0 record and wins in the OVAC largest Class AAA title and the W.Va. Class AAA crown. As a senior, he played at end and defensive back, and his team repeated as OVAC champs. He earned 1st Team All-State and All-OVAC at end.

In basketball, Tomasovich led the Red Riders to sectional and regional titles and helped the team qualify for the state event, where he earned all-tourney honors. He was also a 1st Team All-OVAC Class AAA pick and selected all-class “Big” All-State third team.

In baseball, Tomasovich was a three-time one-class, all-state honoree at pitcher. As a senior, Weir won the one-class state title with a 16-2 record and a 6-2 state tournament title win over state power East Bank. He batted .400 with a 7-1 mound record.

After his senior season, he rejected a pro minor league contract to sign a Georgia Tech scholarship. At Tech, he was a three-year letterman, and two-year starter in basketball and two-year letterman as a pitcher-outfielder in baseball. In basketball, he played 74 games with a 9.2-point norm, with a 30-point game high, and 6.2 rebounds a game. He was 3rd team All-Southeastern Conference as a senior cager when he averaged 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds.

Tomasovich was later inducted into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame and the Weir High Wall of Fame. He currently resides in Atlanta.
