The Detroit Lions have added Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to their team as they look to revamp their secondary this offseason. Gardner-Johnson, who signed a one-year deal worth up to $8 million, is a versatile defensive back who was tied for the NFL lead in interceptions in 2022 with six. The Lions have also signed cornerbacks Cameron Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley, as well as running back David Montgomery and guard Graham Glasnow. With these new additions and their high draft picks, the Lions are looking to be the clear favorites to win the NFC North division in the upcoming 2023 season.

Detroit Lions Add NFL Interceptions Leader to Their Roster

The Detroit Lions are making significant changes to their secondary this offseason, and they have recently added free-agent safety, Chauncey “C.J.” Gardner-Johnson, to their team. Gardner-Johnson has signed a one-year deal with the Lions for up to $8 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 25-year-old Gardner-Johnson was tied for the NFL lead in interceptions in 2022 with six, despite playing in only 12 regular-season games. He was placed on the injured reserve on Dec. 13, after suffering a lacerated kidney but returned to play in the Eagles’ three postseason games, including the Super Bowl. Before joining the Eagles, he spent his first three seasons with the New Orleans Saints, where he was a key part of the defense.

Gardner-Johnson’s addition is a significant boost to the Lions, who have been aggressively revamping their roster during the free agency period. Earlier in the week, the Lions signed cornerbacks Cameron Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley to their team. Gardner-Johnson is a versatile defensive back who can play safety and the nickel/slot corner.

The Lions have also added running back David Montgomery and guard Graham Glasnow to their roster, making it a promising start to the offseason. The team also has the No. 6, 18, 48, and 55 picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, which further strengthens their chances of making a strong push in the upcoming season.

In the previous season, the Lions won nine games, and with these recent signings, they could be the clear favorites to win the NFC North division in the 2023 season.

In conclusion, Gardner-Johnson’s addition to the Lions is a big win for the team. He is a top performer in the NFL, with his interceptions record, and brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Lions’ defense. With the Lions’ roster revamp, they are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
