Medvedev struggled with injuries and windy conditions, with Alcaraz breaking early in both sets and consolidating his lead with ease. Alcaraz’s victory marked his third ATP Masters 1000 trophy and gives him a boost of confidence ahead of his Miami Open title defence. Carlos Alcaraz claimed a resounding victory over Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final on Sunday, regaining the world number one ranking. Alcaraz, who did not lose a set throughout the tournament, dominated the Russian fifth seed in the first-time Indian Wells finalists’ matchup. Medvedev, whose 19-match win streak came to an end, had no answer for the hard-hitting Spaniard’s brilliance in the California desert. Alcaraz broke early for a 2-0 lead in the first set, and with a resigned Medvedev dropping 10 consecutive points, Alcaraz consolidated another break to lead 4-0 in the second set. The 19-year-old closed out the victory in 70 minutes without facing a break point. Medvedev, who suffered a right ankle injury in the fourth round and a cut to his thumb in the quarter-finals, struggled to deal with the windy conditions in the final.

Alcaraz’s victory marked his third ATP Masters 1000 trophy, and he became the youngest world number one last September when he won the U.S. Open. The win will give him a boost of confidence ahead of his Miami Open title defence. He said he was delighted with his performance in the Indian Wells tournament and is looking forward to playing at a similar level in Miami. Novak Djokovic, who previously held the world number one ranking, withdrew from the Indian Wells event and has also pulled out of the Miami Open.
