Red velvet cupcakes are a luxurious treat with a hint of cocoa, a vibrant red hue, and a creamy cream cheese frosting. These cupcakes are perfect for birthdays, holidays, or just because!

Ingredients:

For the cupcakes:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring

For the frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cupcakes: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a mixer, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and food coloring.
  4. Combine and bake: Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture. Pour batter into cupcake liners, filling 2/3 full. Bake for 20-22 minutes.
  5. Prepare the frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until creamy.
  6. Frost and decorate: Once the cupcakes are completely cool, pipe or spread the frosting on top.

  • Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant red.
  • Add sprinkles or white chocolate shavings for decoration.
