SCC Begins Construction on $32 Million Technology Center
Sandhills Global Technology Center has officially broken ground on a $32 million facility on the Southeast Community College campus in Lincoln. The technology company, headquartered in Lincoln, contributed $5 million to the project, which is the largest donation in the college’s history. The facility will span 75,000 square feet and will house four programs – information technology, electronics, biotechnology, and design and drafting technology.
The project is expected to help address Nebraska’s skilled workforce shortage. Arlyn Uhrmacher, the vice chair of the Board of Governors, stated that “This transformative initiative presents a critical step to address Nebraska’s skilled workforce shortage.” The center will feature a full-scale data center, a cyber-security center, and a creativity center that combines computer and electronic technologies.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced that the city has allocated more than $4 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to SCC to support the creation of the technology center. “This investment reflects our commitment to the value SCC provides to our community every day and to the hands-on education that will soon take place inside the walls of this new tech center,” Gaylor Baird says.
The facility is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2024 Fall Semester.
