Personal Life

Yhung T.O. started out by making music on a Playstation along with his friend, DaBoii, who rapped into an iPhone, putting over a beat through the Playstation. DaBoii took him to meet Slimmy B and Lul G at an acquaintance's house where they used to meet to record music. The four men immediately connected over music, but the group was made after T.O. and Slimmy shot the video for a song called 'Cautious', which also featured DaBoii. T.O. had founded 'Real Boi Entertainment' (RBE), while Slimmy was making music under the alias 'Strictly Only Brothers' (SOB). Following the success of 'Cautious', they decided to make music together as a group rather than individual artists. T.O. and Slimmy each brought a childhood friend, DaBoii and Lul G, and formed the mutually supportive collective 'SOB x RBE'.

Rise to Stardom

Their debut album 'SOB x RBE' was a runaway hit and consisted of tracks such as 'Anti', 'Lane Changing', and 'Different' – anthems about the importance of self reliance and trust in a hectic world – which became their signature tracks and drew the attention of major record labels. Before they came together as a band, to gain popularity in the Bay Area, Yhung T.O. was making gangsta type music, while Slimmy made music for the streets. However, now their songs become viral overnight on the internet and have earned them fame beyond they ever imagined. Yhung T.O., who has lent his glossy baritone voice to the majority of the songs by the band, has also gained popularity as a solo artist with his debut album 'On My Momma' and the follow up EP 'Before the Fame'.

Rise to Stardom

Growing up as a young African-American man in a locality where there is a lot of black-on-black crime, Yhung T.O. witnessed a lot of violence and police brutality. According to him, they grew up as natural targets, and their rising popularity has once again made them targets and created a lot of hate among some within the locality who do not appreciate what they have achieved. However, he recognizes that the experiences they had while growing up in Vallejo made their music what it is and gave authenticity to their music. He also thinks that Americans are "fascinated by the poverty, the lifestyle, by the hood", which is why rapping about the struggle and violence sells. However, instead of following the popular trends, they want to make their own kind of music centered upon their small city. The group is cautious about not becoming those who gained popularity for a year or two and then vanished. They want to rise to the status of Jay Z and 50 Cent, and go beyond music to give back to the community.

Musical Style

Music is how Yhung T.O. expresses himself as he often finds himself in conversation with people who are unaware of his background and upbringing. Moreover, growing up, he didn't have the luxury to be soft or emotional, which is why he puts his emotions into his music, while staying strong and solid in person. However, now that he has the attention of a wider audience, he wants to switch to different types of music, the result of which is his solo album 'On My Momma'.
