Personal Life

In 2012, Woody McClain decided to move from Florida to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career as a professional dancer. He soon made a name for himself as a back-up dancer, performing for renowned artists and bands like Chris Brown and Fifth Harmony. During this time, his funny videos on the short looping video platform Vine had earned him a huge fan base, kick-starting his social media journey. He always had a knack for making people laugh, as well as create exciting content, which he decided to explore by creating a YouTube channel and posting funny skit videos on it.

One of his videos, 'Kevin Hart | Permission to Cuss', went viral on the internet and drew the attention of Kevin Hart himself, who signed him to his production company, HartBeat Digital, in December 2015, to produce more skits and comic videos. However, he earned widespread attention after he was cast in the role of R&B and pop singer, Bobby Brown, in the BET miniseries 'The New Edition Story' in 2017. His acting performance in the series earned him a 'Black Reel Award' as well as an 'Image Award' nomination. Now he is all set to establish himself on the big screen with a number movies like 'Canal Street' and 'All the Way with You' lined up in 2018. He also often posts short comic videos on his Instagram profile, on which he has 863k followers.

Rise to Stardom

Woody McClain is a perfect entertainer as he doesn't need a specific platform to make people laugh. Even when he was working as a professional dancer, just after relocating to Los Angeles, he would often post videos of him dancing with Chris Brown on his Vine account, after being introduced to the platform by a friend. Interestingly, McClain, who was more interested in dancing than acting, only gave it a try after one of his friend's videos went viral. Within a short period of time, he became hugely popular on Vine and decided to move on to other social media platforms. He later began posting videos on his Instagram account, sometimes random funny skits, or even videos of him recording skits with his co-star Splack, which also earned him a huge fan following on the platform. Now he is equally popular on YouTube for his 'Stories with Plies' series, re-enacting a rapper’s funniest Instagram videos, and for 'Permission to Cuss', his version of Kevin Hart’s stand-up skit about the first time he cursed.

What Makes McClain Special

He is equally dedicated as an actor, and spent time with Bobby Brown after being cast to play him in BET's biographical series. He not only took dancing tips from the legend, but also took pointers on how he ran from one side of the stage to the other to acknowledge fans screaming his name. He is next eyeing for a role on a series on Netflix.
