Patricia Lynn “Trisha” Yearwood was born on September 19, 1964, in Monticello, Georgia, as the daughter of a banker Jack Howard Yearwood and Gwendolyn Yearwood, a schoolteacher.
Trisha started singing during her elementary school days. She performed in musicals, choir groups as well as in talent shows. As a teenager she became interested in accountancy but after graduating she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served a four-year tenure at Luke AFB.
She later enrolled at Young Harris College to boost her singing career. She received her associate degree and later became a member of the ‘Phi Theta Kappa’ honor society. After that, she enrolled at the University of Georgia but soon became unhappy with the university’s large campus and dropped out.
She received an internship with ‘MTM Records’ and later became a full-time employee there. She recorded many demo tapes and did background vocals for several new artists including Garth Brooks in 1989. Eventually she became good friends with him. Through him, she was introduced to Garth Fundis with whom she started working.
In 1991, Trisha Yearwood released her debut self-titled album which sold over a million copies. The track named ‘She's in Love with the Boy’ peaked at #1 on the ‘Billboard Country Chart’ in 1991. Her debut album also featured three more hit tracks, ‘Like We Never Had a Broken Heart’, ‘The Woman Before Me’, and ‘That's What I Like About You’ that reached the Top 10 on the country chart. She was named the ‘Top New Female Vocalist’ by the Academy of Country Music. A year later she was voted ‘Favorite New Country Artist’ by the American Music Awards.
In 1992 she released her second album titled ‘Hearts in Armor.’ The critically acclaimed album was a result of her own personal experience in life with her husband Chris Latham.
Her third album ‘The Song Remembers When’ was released in 1993. The title track reached #2 on the Billboard country chart. This album also featured artists like Rodney Crowell and Willie Nelson.
Her fourth studio album ‘Thinkin' About You’ and fifth studio album, ‘Everybody Knows’ were released in 1995 and 1996 respectively. The fourth album was more inclined towards ‘Adult Contemporary’ and ‘Country Pop’ music and was lauded by ‘Rolling Stone’ whereas the fifth album consisted of ballads. Both these albums proved to be great hits, spawning several charting singles.
